Oarsome Chance operates a fully equipped carpentry /boat building workshop in Gosport, our Martime Workshop, where we deliver pre-and post-16 vocational education and training.
Oarsome Chance is Open Awards accredited delivering vocational, education and training units. Via this alternative education provision our learners can achieve an Entry Level 3, or Level 1 Award, Certificate, or Diploma. For many young people who struggle with attaining GCSE Level 2 success this is an immensely valuable achievement leading to re engagement with mainstream education and greatly enhancing their route to employment.
By linking this vocational study to an engaging sporting activity, which uses the student built projects, the programmes offer unique education engagement and illustrate the real-world benefits of learning, application and acquiring skills
Oarsome Chance has a fully equipped bicycle maintenance workshop in Havant that also provides pre-and post-16 vocational education and training.
Oarsome Chance has operated a workshop at the Apex Centre in Leigh Park since May 2017 delivering carpentry/boat building skills to young people as part of its main programmes. Donation of used bikes to the centre immediately prompted extra interest by several of the students and this sparked the introduction of bike maintenance to the programme of activities. The workshop is now been converted to a fully established bike maintenance workshop and is a part of the OC programme offer for young people.
Future plans for the bike maintenance workshop include introducing bicycle recycling to further create opportunities for work experience and sell to ultimately sell recycled bikes direct to the public, as well as offer a servicing & repair service.
